15th October 2010
RAIN STOPS PLAY AT MISS WORLD BEACHWEAR SHOOT

Swimsuits and raindrops aren’t a good mix, as the Miss World contestants discovered in Sanya. The top 40 semi finalists stood in bath robes while waiting for the rain to stop – but it held off just long enough to grab a few photographs in their beachwear before the heavens opened again.

Not to be put off by the rain storm, some girls sang ‘Singing in the Rain’ and danced with parasols, while others enjoyed cups of green tea and fruit cocktails as they looked out across the bay from the hotel’s ‘sun’ terrace.

Netherlands said: “This isn’t the usual weather for bikinis but we’re making the most of it. It’s quite funny actually.”

Moldova added: “It wasn’t the weather to go to the beach but when you’re in Miss World, you prepare for anything. The singing is great fun. We have to laugh about it.”

As an additional irony, the girls were each presented with a beautiful fan as a memento of their day. Something that will come in more useful when the clouds clear again!

Today’s top 40 semi finalists in Miss World Beachwear were: Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Botswana, Bolivia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Cape Verde, Cayman Islands, China PR, Czech Republic, France, French Polynesia, Ghana, Guadeloupe, Hong Kong China, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Martinique, Moldova, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, Russia, St Lucia, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, Ukraine, United States and Zimbabwe.

Not what she seems: Nigella Lawson admits that she can be 'incredibly slapdash'

TV cook Nigella Lawson has admitted she is not really a domestic goddess, is ‘quite slapdash’ at home and hated food as a child.

Her book title How To Be A Domestic Goddess was meant as a joke but it stuck, she told Cheltenham Literature Festival.

Nigella said: ‘A more accurate title would have been How To Feel Like A Domestic Goddess.

'I am incredibly slapdash. I can’t iron. I never brush my hair at the sides and back. I am bad at anything which a domestic goddess would want to be good at!’

When she was a child, meals were ‘uncomfortable’, she said.

‘If you didn’t eat your food it was kept in front of you until you did. It was one long power struggle.’

Glamorous: Despite her admission, Nigella always manages to look good for the cameras

The Saturdays mania hits Bluewater as 600 fans queue for hours at book signing

Colourful: The Saturdays line-up as the signing of their new book Our Story at the WHSmith store in Bluewater shopping centre

With Girls Aloud on hiatus and Sugababes taking a step back, The Saturdays are quickly establishing themselves as Britain's biggest girl group.

And as evidence of their growing popularity, the five-piece were mobbed by fans when they attended a signing of their new book at the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent yesterday.

Over 600 fans queued for hours - tailing back to the mall's car park - for the chance to get up close to their idols Mollie King, Una Healy, Frankie Sandford, Vanessa White and Rochelle Wiseman.

The Missing You stars were signing copies of The Saturdays: Our Story in the Bluewater branch of WHSmith and were stunned by their rapturous reception.

After arriving at 2pm, the group were amazed to see a line of hundreds of people winding around the shopping centre.

Rather than their previous identikit fashion ensembles, each bandmate went for dramatic different styles and colours.

While Frankie went for a sophisticated grey jersey dress, Irish singer Una went for a flamboyant grey, pink and yellow floral top and skinny leggings.

Will they conquer the bestsellers charts? A music No.1 has eluded them, but maybe they'll get a No.1 book...

And there was no chance of missing Rochelle in her Sixties-style fuchsia shift dress.
Writing on her Twitter page after the signing, Rochelle said: 'Thanks so much to everyone that came to our signing today I can't believe how many of you there were... wow.

'Thanks so much to everyone that came to our signing today. I can't believe how many of you there were.'

Her bandmate Vanessa admitted she was suffering from writer's cramp after signing so many copies of their book.

Flamboyant: Irish bandmember Una wore a colourful yellow, pink and grey tunic with billowing sleeves

She wrote: 'Thanks so much to everyone that came down today! Was the best! My hand is killing me now.'

Mollie, 23, was besieged with gifts by some of her fans, including a personalised book, necklace, earrings and cupcakes.

She wrote on her Twitter page: 'Thank you SO SO much to everyone who came out today! It really means so much! I was totally overwhelmed!

'Your gifts are AMAZE too, thank you!

The five piece's new book, entitled Our Story, combines both their individual stories and the story of the group as a whole.

It also comes with personal photos and fashion and beauty tips and is on sale now.

Silver seductress: Kim settled for this sexy little metallic number for her 30th birthday party at the Tao nightclub in Las Vegas

It was a difficult decision for the fashion mad reality star, but in the end it looks like she made the right choice.

Celebrating her 30th birthday in Las Vegas Kim Kardashian wanted the perfect dress - and despite trying on a a figure-hugging cream number earlier in the day, on the night she opted for a spotlight hogging tight metallic silver dress.

Devoted sisters: Kim posed with sisters Khloe and Kourtney, who all wear similar short tight dress styles but were careful not to overshadow the birthday girl

Strapless, to show off her impressive embonpoint, extremely short, and very tight - it ticked all the trademark Kardashian boxes.

And as usual she made sure that her curvy derriere was the main attraction.
Kim, who turns 30 next Thursday, was in the Nevada city to celebrate her milestone birthday when she and her sister Kourtney hit the shops.

They visited a series of high-end stores hours before heading to a party in her honour at the popular TAO nightclub.

The reality TV star was snapped in Las Vegas, checking out her curves in a white Hervé Léger dress in a dressing room mirror.

And she made sure that the dress fitted snugly round her bottom and and bosom as she admired herself in the mirror.

Wearing a similar black and white outfit to the one she travelled to Vegas in the day before, Kim visited the pool at the Venetian hotel and was greeted by a crowd of fans and photographers.

Birthday feast: Kim, at the head of the table, is surrounded by her friends and family - including singer Kelly Rowland (third from left at the table) for her 30th birthday dinner at Tao

Later she and Kourtney enjoyed lunch with friends around the pool in one of the hotel's private cabanas.

The Kardashian sisters' celebrity continues to grow as they take on more projects, but one thing Kim says she regrets is posing for Playboy in 2007.

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar she recently said she was 'sorry' she bared all in a raunchy cover story for the men's magazine.

Despite her penchant for living her life in the spotlight, she claims that what you see isn't really what you get.

Tight fit: Kim swapped one tight outfit for yet another as she attended a pre-birthday dinner before the main event

If you've got it, flaunt it: Kim Kardashian checked out her famous curves in the mirror as she shopped for a dress for her 30th birthday celebrations

She told the latest issue of W magazine: 'I'm not a drinker, and when I'm up on the table dancing, it's for the picture'.

'Then I sit right back down. I play into the perception of me, but it's not really me. And the show reveals that.'

Kim's entire family were all at her bash last night, the night appeared to go smoothly - unlike her last birthday.

Last year Scott Disick - Kim's sister Kourtney's partner - drank too much, went on a violent rampage and ruined Kim's 29th birthday celebration, but this year he decided to fly home to avoid spoiling Kim's big night.

X Factor 2010: Judges split into two camps as Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh continue the back-biting

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWF9JnfIudkendofvid

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Still Mr Nasty? Simon Cowell traded barbs with Louis Walsh almost nearly every act on Saturday's live show

It may only be week two of the X Factor, but its looks like the competition between the judges is already heating up.

On Saturday night's show, the judges table appeared to be split into two camps - with Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh regularly trading barbs from either end.

Even Dannii Minogue found herself as the target of Simon's criticism, when he lambasted the dancers chosen to accompany her act Paije Richardson.

He accused Dannii of 'screwing up', claiming 'it looked like the dancers had walked on to the wrong song' when he sang Alicia Keys' ballad If I Ain't Got You.

When Simon asked Dannii if the dancers were suitable for the song choice, Dannii fired back: 'I thought so yeah. I loved the style you stamped on that.

'It’s kind of young and hip and cool to mix things together on stage these days and it works for Paije because he has strong direction. I was so happy with that performance tonight, it did get hotter and hotter towards the end.'

Louis questioned Simon's choice of songs for his acts for 'Heroes week' several times, asking whether Kelly Clarkson was really the idol of teen boy band One Direction.

A judging table divided: It's Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue on one side...

Shaky: Dermot O'Leary supports Aiden Grimshaw after he gets mixed praise from the judges

The Simon and Cheryl club disagreed with Louis and Dannii over the latter's act Aiden Grimshaw's rendition of John Lennon's Jealous Guy.

While Louis and Dannii praised his performance, Cheryl told the 18-year-old: 'You could be a really credible artist, tonight that performance was shaky for me.'

Simon reiterated her comments: 'There were too many times on that song where it went out of control. Last week you were on the money, nerves got the better of you, it ran away with you...'

Louis interrupted Simon - telling Aiden his performance was 'amazing', prompting Simon to defend his criticism.

Firm friends: Simon appeared to agree with everything Cheryl Cole said

He said: 'Aiden by the way I am not on a downer with you, I think you are potentially brilliant but you have to find a song which you can control more.'

Simon backed up Cheryl again when she was booed by the audience for her critique of Storm's song with both urging him to tone down the 'crazy' element of his set.

But Simon did take the opportunity to tease Cheryl after her fake tan was widely mocked by viewers and the media last week.

Simon said: 'Let me just say Cheryl you look so much nicer tonight. Less orange.'
Cheryl returned the compliment: 'You too... and your teeth look whiter tonight.'

Tension: After Cheryl won the show two years in a row, the other judges are desperate to stop her making a hat trick

After the newest judge Cheryl won the talent show two years in a row, there is more pressure than ever for either Dannii, Simon or Louis to win this year.

Perhaps Simon was siding with Cheryl as Louis criticised the Girls Aloud singer last week.

He said last week: 'I have an opinion. It’s not all about you, Cheryl... I’m fed up listening to her! It’s not her show.'

Even before the show was broadcast, there were revelations of back-stabbing and in-fighting among the contestants.

Cheryl looked straight-faced as she turned up clutching a killer pair of Jimmy Choo stilettos... which she may have lent to one of her contestants after choosing a pair of Miu Miu heels instead.

Support: Louis keeps hold of Dannii's hand as the judges greet the audience

Two of the contestants said to be at the centre of the back-biting - Cher Lloyd and Katie Waissel - are Cheryl's acts.

The show has always been surrounded by some sort of controversy and this year's X Factor has been no different.

Gamugate has been overshadowed this weekend after reports emerged of back-stabbing and bitchiness between contestants.

And to make matters worse, a stomach bug has hit the show, forcing some finalists to miss rehearsals as even their guru Simon succumbed to the virus.

According to The Sun yesterday, rehearsals for Saturday's descended into bitchiness and rowing between contestants over their live slots and favouritism.

Spike: Cheryl gets straight to the point with these killer stiletto boots as she arrived at the X Factor studios on Saturday afternoon

This year's show has been branded the bitchiest yet with finalists ignoring Katie Waissel, 24, and Cher Lloyd, 17, who they think are getting special treatment.
According to insiders, during rehearsals at the show's studios in Wembley, north London, both girls wore expensive outfits, which raised suspicions among the other contestants.

The source said: 'People couldn't believe how amazing they looked and were loudly moaning. But most people just ignored the two of them and refused to speak to them.'
Storm Lee became the subject of rehearsal wrath after he took an hour to practise his version of Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run for the show.

Each act is allocated around 15 to 20 minutes to perfect their routines with the aid of singing coaches and creative director Brian Friedman, but some were said to be timing their rivals.

All smiles: Dannii looked happy before going into the frosty studio environment

Arguments also erupted over tonight's line-up with some acts refusing to go first after FYD, who were the first act to perform last week and were then voted off.
The source added: 'People were saying, "I can't go first", pretending that their nerves would get the better of them. In fact, the reality is they reckon it's the worst slot.

'Almost all were saying they wanted to go last or towards the end so they'd be fresh in the audience's mind when it came to voting. It's all tactical. Most of them have no nerves at all.'

As if that wasn't all bad enough, the contestants and judges have been hit with a stomach bug with Rebecca Ferguson and Matt Cardle are among a handful of finalists who have been forced to miss rehearsals after contracting the virus.

X Factor 2010: Another triumph for Mary Byrne who gets standing ovation... but disaster for 'shaky' Aiden Grimshaw who labels his performance 'rubbish

Goosebumps: Mary Byrne delivered a strong rendition of a Dusty Springfield track, but while Aiden Grimshaw delivered a 'shaky' rendition of Jealous Guy

Supermarket checkout worker Mary Byrne was given a standing ovation by the live audience after belting out a powerful performance of Dusty Springfield's You Don't Have To Say You Love Me.

The 50-year-old Irish singer was moved to tears by the enthusiastic crowd, with judge Dannii Minogue finding her several attempts to speak were drowned out by the cheers.

When the audience eventually quietened down, the Australian said: 'Mary I know you were nervous about tonight’s performance and you absolutely don’t have to be nervous at all. That was priceless, it was so beautiful.'

Cheryl Cole also gave her high praise: 'You do something to me that I'm covered in goosebumps. I'm head to toe chills. I truly believe in your performance.'

But the big shock tonight was Aiden Grimshaw, who declared his rendition of John Lennon's Jealous Guy 'rubbish'.

After delivering an amazing performance of Mad World last week, it appeared the nerves got the better of the 18-year-old Blackpool student.

Emotional: The single mother, 50, grew teary-eyed after a roaring reception from the audience

While his mentor Dannii and Louis praised his performance, Cheryl and Simon Cowell said it was 'shaky'.

Cheryl said: 'You could be a really credible artist, tonight that performance was shaky for me.

'I’m not going to patronise you, I think you know that yourself. I think you have potential, I’d like to see you do something a little more versatile, just to see what you’ve got.'

Agreeing with Cheryl most of the evening, Simon reiterated her comments: 'There were too many times on that song where it went out of control. Last week you were on the money, nerves got the better of you, it ran away with you.'

Nerves get the better of Aiden: The 18-year-old appeared to buckle under the pressure and labelled this week's performance as 'rubbish'

Cheerleaders: Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue disagreed with Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole's comments about Aiden's performance

After he was interrupted by Louis declaring Aiden's song was 'amazing', Simon insisted: 'Aiden by the way I am not on a downer with you, I think you are potentially brilliant but you have to find a song which you can control more.'

When asked for his opinion by host Dermot O'Leary, a visibly sad Aiden said: 'It was a bit rubbish... I don't know.'

It was also a complete turn around for Katie Waissel this week after just managing to scrap through after being saved in the sing-off.

But last night, the 24-year-old managed to prove her critics wrong with a stunning rendition of Etta James' I Would Rather Go Blind.

Keeping things simple: It was just Katie and her voice after last week's chaotic performance of Queen's We Are The Champions

In contrast to her wacky performance of Queen's We Are The Champions last week, the blonde singer was left alone on the stage with just her voice.

Crediting himself for Katie's continuation in the competition, Louis Walsh said: I am so glad I saved you. You're a hard worker. I think people in the press are giving you a hard time. You sang your heart out.

Dannii - who also voted to save Cheryl's act Katie - said she had changed her opinion: 'Katie nobody can deny you sang with every bit of effort that you have and that’s why I saved you last week.

'I didn’t like your performance on the Saturday, I like it stripped back, you’ve still got your personality and I think what we have to get across now, is to really show that personality, show who you are don’t hide behind things.'

Different opinions: The judging panel was often divided tonight with Dannii and Louis being targeted with jibes by Simon

Scottish-American singer Storm Lee, 37, was the first to perform with a rendition of Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run.

While the performance was toned down from last week's, he started the song sat on a motorcycle accompanied by four dancers.

While Dannii and his mentor Louis praised Storm, Cheryl and Simon appealed for him to tone down his performance and focus on the singing.

Dannii said: 'Strewth Storm... you sing very well. I'm actually loving the whole presentation. Last week I'm in shock, this week I'm loving it. You had the audience in the palm of your hand.'

Making an entrance: Scottish-American singer Storm Lee opened Saturday's show sitting on a motorbike

'Lose the craziness': Cheryl and Simon want Storm to sing without the large production behind him

But Cheryl was booed by the audience when she admitted she wasn't 'completely sold on he fact this is you... I would like to see you stand there and sing. For me if you're here, lose the craziness.

Simon conceded Storm's vocals were 'ok' but added 'it's so crazy I can't concentrate'.

After wowing the judges in Week One, Treyc Cohen, 26, put on another stunning performance this week with her hero Prince's iconic Eighties track Purple Rain.

Simon tipped her as a potential winner of this year's series: 'You looked absolutely gorgeous. That was incredible. It wasn't perfect, I think you lost the melody in parts. You've got to let yourself go the way you look, the styling isn't right.

Confusing messages: Simon told Treyc Cohen she looked 'gorgeous', before admitting he had a problem with her styling

'You could be a dark horse. You may be the one to watch. That was absolutely stunning.'

The third act up was cinema usher Paije Richardson, 19, who took on Alicia Keys' ballad If I Ain't Got You.

His backing dancers ended up causing a disagreement between Simon and Dannii after the music mogul questioned why they were there.

Simon said: 'You're like sunshine. you put everyone in a good mood.

'I know it's not your fault, but It looked like the dancers had walked on to the wrong song. Ms Minogue... whose responsibility it is, has screwed this up.'

'You're like sunshine': London teen Paije Richardson's rendition of If I Ain't Got You impressed everyone, but Simon questioned the backing dancers

One Direction raised eyebrows with their supposed 'hero' - My Life Would Suck Without You by Kelly Clarkson - who was discovered by Cowell on American Idol.

Louis questioned the song choice, saying: 'My only problem is with your mentor, Kelly Clarkson... your hero? Really? I think Simon could have picked a better song.'

Is Kelly Clarkson really their idol? The song choice for boy band One Direction was questioned by some of the judges

Simon hit back, accusing Louis of being like a 'grey cloud on a sunny day', adding: 'It was so unnecessary to say something bitchy.'

While Cheryl didn't comment much on their singing, she gushed about One Direction's cuteness factor.

She said: 'I can't even cope with how cute you are. I wanna go up and hug them... in a nice way. You're so sweet. This is adorable. I wanna say this is the new big boy band, but I think that will come in time.'

One of the show's most controversial finalists Cher Lloyd received a mixed response with her mash-up of Annie and Jay-Z's It's A Hard Knock Life, which started off musical theatre-esque before turning into a hip-hop version.

Taking risks: Cher Lloyd was labelled a 'pop star' by her mentor Cheryl Cole after performing It's A Hard Knock Life

Fair enough: The 17-year-old took on Dannii's criticism that the song didn't pay off this time

Many fans on Twitter commented the 17-year-old from Worcestershire looked like London rapper Lady Sovereign in her lacy harem pants.

While her mentor Cheryl lauded her performance, saying 'you are a pop star', Dannii said she wasn't so convinced.

The Australian said: 'Brave song choice, I wasn’t sure about it tonight. I love every risk you’ve taken before but tonight it didn’t really work for me.'

Receiving universal praise from the judges was north London care worker John Adeleye, 29, for his powerful rendition of Donny Hathaway's A Song For You.

In a rare moment of agreeing with Louis, Simon said: 'Unfortunately got to hand this over to Louis and say this was a fantastic song. You gave it 100 per cent. It was a great performance.

Soul man: Care worker John Adeleye received universal praise for Donny Hathaway's A Song For You

After choosing Kelly Clarkson for New Direction, Simon appeared to bend the rules on Heroes week again as he chose the song Barbra Streisand by chart newcomers Duck Sauce for camp duo Diva Fever - which is expected to reach No.1 this weekend.

Not knowing who the song was by, Louis said: 'Really, heroes..? Boney M? Barbra Streisand?'

Avoiding Louis questioning whether the song fitted into the theme, Simon explained: 'I had to find a song you would make if you were gonna make a hit record.'
It was a change of pace for Liverpudlian single mother Rebecca Ferguson with a beautiful version of Nina Simone's Feeling Good.

Questionable choice: Diva Fever sang a song by chart newcomers Duck Sauce - which is tipped to be No.1 this weekend

Risking the wrath of Liverpudlians, Louis seemed to suggest he was surprised the 24-year-old was from Merseyside.

He said: 'You are what we're looking for. We're looking for someone with an amazing recording voice.

'You look so sophisticated... and you're from Liverpool! You've got so much star quality. I can see you going all the way.'

Another act finding their hometown coming into the judges' comments was Brazilian Wagner Carrilho, when Dannii admitted she didn't understand all the lyrics in his performance of Tom Jones's Just Help Yourself.

Representing Liverpool: Another strong performance from single mother Rebecca Ferguson

She said: 'Oh... My... God. I have never watched a performance like that before.
'Did you sing all of that in English? I didn’t understand all of it, last week I could understand you this week I couldn’t... I know (it's your accent). I've got a terrible accent.'

Taking the attention away from the singing, Simon asked Wagner about the recent tabloid reports of a romance with fellow Over-28s contestant Mary Byrne.

Wagner simply replied: 'Mary is a wonderful soul, a noble woman of a great character. She's a great friend of mine.'

Fun: Wagner Carillho was the most entertaining of the night with his energetic Tom Jones cover

Oh... My... God: Dannii was stunned by Wagner's act

Next up was Simon's girl grou Belle Amie, who sang The Kinks' You Really Got Me dressed like Sixties sirens with mini dresses, hotpants and heavy eyeliner.

Making a pop at Cheryl, Louis said: 'It was so much better than last week. You remind me of a young Girls Aloud.'

Dannii has mixed criticism: 'I love that version. The styling didn't work for me. Loved the make-up, but (the clothing) was distracting.'

Back to the Sixties: Belle Amie covered The Kinks' You Really Got Me after earlier clashing in rehearsals over who sang what

Final performance of the night was bookies favourite Matt Cradle, who hit a high C in his song.

Another questionable choice of song for Heroes week, the decorator performed Just The Way You Are by American chart newcomer Bruno Mars - who is actually two years younger than 27-year-old Matt.

Louis: 'I loved the way it was note perfect. It would be a No.1 record. You remind a little bit of Bono.'

Simon added: 'I absolutely loved the production on that Matt. You had two or three moments where you fell off, but I'll put down to nerves. It was a genius version of the song. Both you and Rebecca have the same issue - confidence. Once you get the confidence, you could be a brilliant recording artist.'

'You're like sunshine': London teen Paije Richardson's rendition of If I Ain't Got You impressed everyone, but Simon questioned the backing dancers

Oh...
