Bit early for Christmas? Hilary Swank dazzles Leicester Square in a silver Donna Karan dress at the London Film Festival


With two Oscars to her name, HIlary Swank is a seasoned veteran of the red carpet.
But attending the British premiere of her latest film Conviction at the London Film Festival tonight, the 36-year-old hit a rare fashion 'miss' with her silver ensemble.
Unfortunately, the Hollywood star's floor-length Donna Karan dress looked like something to wrap the turkey in on Christmas Day.

Nevertheless, despite her questionable choice of dress, hundreds of fans queuing outside the Vue West End in Leicester Square didn't appear to mind.

The actress made sure she took time to talk to fans and sign autographs, before reuniting with her Conviction co-stars Minnie Driver and Sam Rockwell inside the cinema.

Revelling in being back in her birth city of London, LA-based Driver looked glamorous in a Grecian-style, blue Marchesa Resort 2011 dress.

Writing on her Twitter page ahead of the premiere, the 40-year-old said: 'In London for Conviction screening Fri night. How I love London in the Autumn.'

London was just the latest stop in a busy promotional tour for Driver and Swank, who joined Juliette Lewis and Rockwell at a New York screening of the movie earlier this week.

Conviction is based on the true story of unemployed single mother Betty Anne Waters, who fought to exonerate her brother Kenneth Waters, after he was convicted of the 1980 murder of Katharina Brow.

After Kenneth was convicted, Betty Anne put herself through law school and utilised DNA testing to prove her brother was innocent. He was eventually released 18 years later, but died six months later from head injuries following a fall.

Swank herself admitted when she first heard the story of the Waters family, she couldn't believe it was true.

She said: 'There's a part of you that has to be like, "This could never happen". And then you realise that it is happening.'

However, the film has created controversy with the grown-up children of the victim Mrs Brow expressing their 'disapointment and anger' they weren't consulted over the movie.

Melrose and Charlie Brow said through their lawyer: 'We believe that a proper respect for the murder victim’s family should have been shown.

'That could have been demonstrated by the film’s representatives contacting the family to learn how they felt about the making of a film which would remind them of the terrible pain and suffering that they endured because of the loss of their mother.'

In response, the film's three producers issued a statement, saying: 'We have the deepest compassion and sympathy for the family of Katharina Brow. (The screening) will no doubt answer many of their questions surrounding the unthinkable and horrific tragedy that befell their mother.'
