Court side: Paris Hilton was in a Las Vegas courtroom today with her attorney David Chesnoff
where she pleaded guilty to cocaine possession and obstruction of an official

Paris Hilton pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor offences in a Las Vegas court today - drug possession and obstructing a public officer.

The heiress agreed to pay a $2,000 fine and complete 200 hours of community service.

But she was warned by Judge Joe Bonaventure that if she is arrested for anything more than a minor traffic violation she faces one year in Clark County Detention Centre.

In case she was in any doubt, Bonaventure told Hilton: 'The Clark County Detention Center is not the Waldorf Astoria.'

Hilton was also ordered to complete an 'intensive' substance abuse program and was warned by Bonaventure that she must change her behaviour.

Today's court appearance stems from Hilton's August 27 arrest for possessing cocaine.

Hair trouble: A bored looking Hilton fiddled with her hair as she waited for proceedings to start

Hilton was in Las Vegas with her boyfriend, Cy Waits, when they were pulled over by cops after they smelt an odour of marijuana coming from inside.

During the bust one officer accompanied Hilton inside the Hotel - and saw what they claim was a bag of cocaine fall out of her handbag, another officer carried out three field sobriety tests on Waits.

Going on to vow that she's using this experience to 'finally grow up and become a responsible adult.'

She claims that she now wants to spend her time volunteering at animal shelters and focusing on her business empire.

Life changing: Hilton claims her arrest has been a 'life changing' experience and vows she is going to turn her life around

One for the album: Hilton and her boyfriend Cy Waits each got to pose for a mugshot following their August arrests in Las Vegas

If this sounds familiar it's because Hilton has made such claims before.

She sat down for an interview with CNN's Larry King in July 2007 following a 23-day stint in jail for alcohol related reckless driving.

At that time Hilton claimed her incarceration provided 'time to get to know myself' and promised 'I'm just going to follow all the laws' before vowing she would now spend her spare time 'doing good deeds.'

Bright and breezy: Hilton arrived at the Las Vegas courthouse at 7am this morning
