Riding high: Kelly Brook, with Mayor Boris Johnson and Sir Chris Hoy, kick off the Sky Ride cycling event in London today

The saying goes, 'It's like riding a bike,' but model Kelly Brook appeared to have a little trouble even mastering that as she got off to a wobbly start on the London Sky ride today.

Despite jumping on a bike last week for a promotional photo shoot and taking part in the event last year, Miss Brook looked a little unsteady as she prepared to kick off the free cycling event today with Mayor Boris Johnson and Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy.

Dressed somewhat inappropriately in tight jeans, high heels and an extremely low-cut top which threatened to expose more than just her cleavage, the 30-year-old appeared to have some trouble balancing on her bike.

Here we go: The trio kicked off the 15km jaunt in front of Buckingham Palace

Woops: Despite having plenty of practice during the promotional photo calls, Kelly got off to a wobbly start

As the event's ambassadors the trio led the pack of cyclists who took part in the ride which saw a 15km stretch of London roads closed, including routes past some of the capital's landmark sights.

With a little push from Sky Ride staff, Kelly was on her way down The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace, ahead of tens of thousands of cyclists of all ages and on an assortment of wheeled vehicles.

The event is part of bike-enthusiast Boris Johnson' 'Year of Cycling', which includes a range of initiatives including the Barclays Cycle Hire, which launched last month, and the installation of landmark cycle 'superhighways'.

Bike friendly clothing? The model chose to ride in a daringly low-cut top and high heels

Speaking ahead of the event, Kelly said: 'Having taken part in Sky Ride last year, I’m really looking forward to being involved again this summer.'

'I love cycling and it is such a fantastic way to keep fit, the best part about these events is that it doesn't matter if you're a novice or a more experienced rider; they have something for all ages and abilities.'

While Boris and Sir Chris set a good example for their fellow cyclists by donning helmets, Kelly presumably did not wish to ruin her perfectly coiffed pony-tail hair style.

And they're off: the trio led the way on the free event, which saw a 15km route through London closed for the tens of thousands of cyclists to enjoy

The aspiring actress' huge smile was not surprising, given the news today that she has been snapped up by elite New York modelling agency One Management.

The Mail revealed today that Kelly will join the likes of Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova and Lizzy Jagger in the prestigious agency's books. ‘Kelly’s over the moon to be joining One,’ a friend revealed.

Fun-filled day: All types of people and vehicles were out in force today as part of the free event

All welcome: Four-legged enthusiasts joined in on the ride which started from Buckingham Palace

‘She’s off to New York for Fashion Week in a few days and she hopes to make a real impression. Who knows where it will lead? It’s very exciting.’

It is an exciting step forward for Miss Brook, who has been seeking to make a name for herself stateside of late after appearing in the horror film Piranha: 3D.

She will be gaining a whole new legion of fans in the US, after gracing the cover of Playboy magazine this month. Her successful cover shoot reportedly earned the star a £340,000 paycheck.

They're behind you: Competitors on penny farthings and other antiquated bikes take part in the The Knutsford Great Race in north-west England, which is held once every ten years
