Actor Choi Chul Ho (40) who had vehemently denied earlier through media outlets that he had hit a woman in public, has now found himself in deeper controversy after it was revealed through CCTV that the incident did happen.
A Yongin police station spokesperson revealed, “Choi Chul Ho had pushed a woman to the ground at around 2.30am on July 8th near the streets of Pungdeokcheon-dong, Yongin. After pushing her to the ground, he then kicked her body from behind. His violent act was caught on a CCTV at a nearby store.”
It was revealed that Choi had just completed filming a scene for Dong Yi and had been drinking with a fellow entertainer, Sun and the female victim. Choi and the victim ended up quarreling before the former inflicted violence on her.
Choi who is married with a son, is mainly known for playing supporting roles and only recently gained prominence after acting in Queen of Housewives last year. He said earlier, “I did not use violence. If I did, the whole world will definitely know.”
The police have expressed that the victim has decided to decline against pressing charges, so Choi Chul Ho was released without further investigation. However, as a public figure he is far from off the hook and must answer to the court of public opinion.
Actress Park Ha Sun has meanwhile denied that she is the victim after netizens had speculated that she is the one since she is also acting in the same drama as Choi, and she looked alike to the person in the CCTV video.
Choi’s agency will reveal their official position in a press conference on the 11th.
